GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 776635
Drag and drop extraction from file-roller to Nautilus doesn't work on Wayland
Last modified: 2020-11-11 19:11:25 UTC
Running the wayland-enabled version of GNOME 3.22 on Fedora, I can't extract from file-roller by dragging and dropping files into Nautilus.
Is the direct save protocol supposed to work on wayland? If not what is the alternative?
Wayland does not explicitly support it, but it's just the middle man. According to XDS page at fdo: "If this is not provided, it should fall back on text/uri-list". Is this a possibility?
No, because Nautilus doesn't know how to extract files from an archive, it must be file-roller to extract the files to the destination directory, and this is allowed by XDS.
Issue persists on file-roller 3.24.1 / Fedora 26. Aware of: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=770333 doesn't seem to be related. Tried changing the backend with env GDK_BACKEND=x11 file-roller but no improvement
Sadly under fedora 27 / gnome 3.26 this is still broken. FWIW tested some alternative archivers, testing xarchiver, engrampa, peazip, ark. Drag/drop of files to nautilus is broken under wayland in all of them, with either GDK_BACKEND. Engrampa does show an error message after the attempt to drop files to nautilus: permission error. Of course the folder's permissions are OK - nautlius's own "Extract Here" work fine on the same archive.

it`s still impossible to extract files using DnD with file roller 3.32.2 on Arch Linux.

bugzilla.gnome.org is being replaced by gitlab.gnome.org. We are closing all old bug reports and feature requests in GNOME Bugzilla which have not seen updates for a long time. If you still use file-roller and if you still see this bug / want this feature in a currently supported version of GNOME (currently that would be 3.38), then please feel free to report it at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/file-roller/-/issues/ Thank you for creating this report and we are sorry it could not be implemented (volunteer workforce and time is limited).
