GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 776521
Implement IPv6 (GNOME updater breaks on IPv6 systems)
Last modified: 2018-09-21 15:26:32 UTC
Created attachment 342498 [details] GNOME updater breaks on IPv6 Please implement IPv6. It is offered automatically by all major hosts by default these days and is configured into the system on setup with DHCPv6. Usually all it takes is to add AAAA records to the DNS file and add [::1] entry points into the web server configuration. It does not just affect websites but it also breaks GNOME software like the updater if the system is using IPv6 and not IPv4.
This applies to most (all) GNOME websites
The network which sponsors all of GNOME's traffic doesn't support IPv6.
(In reply to Olav Vitters from comment #2) > The network which sponsors all of GNOME's traffic doesn't support IPv6. It seems the GNOME network is managed by Red Hat which is residing on the Cogent Communications network. They provide IPv6. It is impossible to find a large network in the western world that is not able to provide IPv6: http://www.cogentco.com/en/customer-service/faq#additional_IPs
Red Hat NOC does NOT provide IPv6. I've asked various times if they'd provide it. It's been a while, but last time they didn't provide nor was there a plan for it.
I asked Red Hat sysadmin Patrick Uiterwijk for an update and got the following: "not at PHX2, no. There are "plans" (theoretically, though as far as I know nothing has come from it yet) to get it in the new community cage. But nothing soon as far as I know" So seems the importance needs to be explained to them.
