On starting the X windows environment, with Gnome as default Windowing environment, I get the Panel has crashed message. the system seems to work fine, but with no panel its not fun.

Tried applying all the latest updates from RH with no joy

>How-To-Repeat:
Start the system
Logon at test console as root
startx
problem occurs
