GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 774832
Add actions in notification (mark as read / delete / …)
Last modified: 2021-07-05 13:28:08 UTC
Currently new mail notification only display emitter and title of the mail. It would be great to have some actions available directly in the notification, the most standards being: - Mark as read - Delete - Mark as Junk and/or Spam - Open I don't think there is enough space to have all of them, but it would be a nice improvement I think.
Some other options would include Reply and Reply All. It would be good to get some research into what other apps do. E.g. on Android, AquaMail uses Trash and Mark Read. Currently if there's more than one message to notify about, Geary will collapse all of them into a single notification. I think that's the right thing to do, but does make this a bit less useful.
I'm currently leaning towards resolving this as wontfix, since we can't do individual notifications unless there's only a single new unread message, and hence we can't enable these sorts of actions if the notification covers more than one message. So I'd rather make notifications work consistently and reliably (in particular fix Bug 714639), so that people can rely on a two-step "Click notification, click action" workflow. Anyway, there's a bit of a writeup about this on the wiki: https://wiki.gnome.org/Apps/Geary/Design/Notifications - feedback welcome.
GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org. As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately quite limited so not every ticket can get handled). If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent and supported software version, then please follow https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines and create a new ticket at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/geary/-/issues/ Thank you for your understanding and your help.
