Description Tobias Schönberg 2016-11-15 17:59:15 UTC
I would like to be able to create an extension that highlights the mouse cursor when turned on and maybe has some options for the highlighting. This is often used for educational screencasts to make it easier for the viewer to see where a person is pointing the mouse or drawing styles.

On the Gnome IRC I was informed that this would require some changes to the compositor.

This is some information about the mouse cursor in general:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/35069486/in-linux-what-piece-of-software-is-responsible-for-drawing-the-mouse-cursor

I would like to work on this, but would need some help from someones that has more experience with the subject.

As far as the universal-access aspect is concerned, this is bug 690055. It's likely useful for your use case as well, but I don't see us supporting anything more than that (either in gnome-shell itself or the gnome-shell-extensions module, although 3rd party extensions can of course still do something more fancy)
