GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 774055
in specific locales some apps in their original name don't get recognized
Last modified: 2016-11-07 14:05:20 UTC
When I run a czech locale and search for apps in their original english name, some apps do work: Videos Photos Music Disks but some apps do not: Files Weather This might not be a shell bug, but individual app .desktop issue, in which case I'll file a bug against the appropriate app.
Bug 767237 isn't quite the same (Keywords vs. Name), but which particular field is looked up in multiple locales isn't the tricky bits, so they should be similar enough. (In reply to Jakub Steiner from comment #0) > When I run a czech locale and search for apps in their original english > name, some apps do work Yeah, but that's really just by accident: > Videos Has "Video" in Keywords > Photos Has "gnome-photos" as executable > Music Dto. for "gnome-music" ... > Disks ... and "gnome-discs" > but some apps do not: Yeah, no such luck here: > Files is really called "nautilus" ... > Weather ... and weather uses gapplication to get DBus-activated on launch. > This might not be a shell bug, but individual app .desktop issue, in which > case I'll file a bug against the appropriate app. The issue could be addressed in GIO, see bug 767237. In the short-term, the issue could also be addressed in .desktop files, but it would require that every translation team for any app with a generic name includes the untranslated name in the translated Keywords ... *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 767237 ***
