GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 773801
Laggy delays temporarily locking up the X server when seeking H264 files with gstreamer-vaapi installed
Last modified: 2017-08-09 09:06:46 UTC
Created attachment 338923 [details] totem with GST_DEBUG=*av*:6,*videodec*:6 With H264 .mov files in Fedora 24, I couldn't seek anything without the system graphics locking up for half a second. ABRT was also complaining about totem seemingly crashing all the time in the background (although it was not actually crashing in front of me, I suspect it was the totem thumbnailers for Nautilus), ABRT identified one of the crashes to be a duplicate of https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1377382 Attached is a debug log. All I know now is that uninstalling the "gstreamer1-vaapi" distro package (I have no idea why it was installed) solved the problem, I can now seek without any micro-lockups.
Oh yeah, and I'm running the free "radeonsi" driver for the RadeonHD 7770 on X, for what it's worth.
The debug log doesn't help with the totem-video-thumbnailer crash, but might help show where time is being spent when the X server pauses.
Totem Thumbnailer blacklist the vaapi plugin, hence is not using it.
