GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 773366
Archive compression with other application
Last modified: 2017-10-23 22:10:53 UTC
Please consider detecting whether file-roller is installed and using it by default. Falling back to the built-in method if file-roller is not available. Rationale behind this request is that the built-in solution is a little too basic at this point and does not provide the same functionality. i.e. support for very few formats, no support for passwords, etc. Unless it's already planned to implement the same functionality in the future, I believe this would offer users the best possible experience. Those that require those features would have the same level of integration as those who don't.
What are the features you are actually missing? I guess it's about compression, since we have an option in the nautilus prefs to pick the default app for opening archives, right?
Sorry. This stems from people suggesting a bug be filed in a discussion at https://www.reddit.com/r/gnome/comments/58gzup/fileroller_madness/ Feel free to close if no one chooses to add to this. Sorry for the noise.
Just asking for a clear picture.

This was implemented and Nautilus it's just another handler as file-roller is.
