Incomplete patch

+++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #772221 +++

Several of GLib's tests fail on master, because error messages now have correct Unicode typography, but tests that make assertions about those error messages do not.

I have not tested it, but hopefully it will allow to revert commit 2d56c49.
