Description Jeremy Bicha 2016-10-04 12:03:55 UTC
gnome-boxes 3.22.0-1 on Ubuntu GNOME 16.10 Beta amd64

When I open the Boxes app, after a few seconds all my boxes start. They'll keep running even when I close the app unless I explicitly right click on them and select Force Shutdown.

I am told that this is a bug and does not affect a Fedora 24/25 host.

I guess Pause isn't working correctly.

Thanks for filing. If it's not reproducible on Fedora, I'm not going to be able to investigate.
Comment 2 Zeeshan Ali 2016-10-04 15:57:42 UTC
Actually i was able to reproduce on Fedora 24 host here. It's weird, i'll investigate.

Can you please check if you get the same error on your machine?

$ virsh list
 Id    Name                           State
----------------------------------------------------
 4     fedora24-wor                   running
 10    fedora24-wor-2                 running

$ virsh managedsave fedora24-wor
error: Failed to save domain fedora24-wor state
error: internal error: unable to execute QEMU command 'migrate': There's a migration process in progress

Yeah, ironically the only place I have Fedora installed here is in a VM…

I get no output from that command

$ virsh list
 Id    Name                           State
----------------------------------------------------

Ah try `virsh list --all`. But if you get nothing w/o --all, that means VMs are not always running. What I'm seeing here is that Boxes keeps VMs running and it's because pausing/saving is currently failing.
Comment 6 Zeeshan Ali 2016-10-05 10:10:13 UTC
And now that i update qemu (2.6.2), i can pause fine. So the issue I was seeing, I don't anymore but I'm not at all sure it's the same as yours.
Comment 7 Jeremy Bicha 2016-10-05 11:47:56 UTC
$ virsh list --all
 Id    Name                           State
----------------------------------------------------
 -     UbuntuGNOME1610                shut off

But I have two boxes and they're not shut off and I think that Name was an earlier experiment with qemu outside of Boxes. So virsh doesn't really produce

I'm attaching the debugging output from right-clicking one of the boxes, choosing Properties and clicking Troubleshooting Log in the System tab.

I opened a bug in Ubuntu about this and mentioned that 2.6.2 fixed the Pause issue for you.

What? Sorry, I don't quite follow what you said above. "Name"? What experiment?

Thanks.

Ah ok, so the VM that you provided log for, is live and Boxes only automatically starts the VM if it's in 'install' state (live is not considered that even if you are running an installer from live session) so not sure why this is happening but it's possible that it's not a Boxes bug.
