Description Gerald Nunn 2016-09-15 13:52:12 UTC
I'm having an issue with the appmenu in gnome-shell when I hide and show a window. When the window is shown for the first time all is fine, however after hiding and re-showing the window gnome-shell just shows the default icon and name rather then what is specified in the desktop file. Additionally the appmenu specified by the application is no longer shown, just the default Quit menu option.

Some images of this behavior can be viewed at the following Terminix bug report:

https://github.com/gnunn1/terminix/issues/471

I also see similar weird behavior with Lollypop, the music player. If you enable the "Continue playback while closed" option in Lollypop, close the player and then re-open it the app menu just shows the default Quit item albeit the icon and title are fine unlike my application.

I had the same issue with Geary (email client).
It's triggered when in the preferences I have checked "Always watch for new mail", which keeps the process alive when I close the window: is this what you mean with "hide and show", right?

Frederico: I'm not familiar with Geary's code base but I assume it simply hides the window with that option and re-shows it when you launch the application again.
Comment 3 GNOME Infrastructure Team 2021-07-05 14:47:40 UTC
GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org.
As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org
which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately
quite limited so not every ticket can get handled).

If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent
and supported software version, then please follow
  https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines
and create a new ticket at
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/issues/

Thank you for your understanding and your help.
