Hi. I test scanner support on GIMP using windows 7 SP1 X64 OS

I have suggestion I thing it should be applied on all platform

Currently no advanced setting for scanner use in GIMP. Just select scanner, then scanning interface appear then "scan" & after finishing scanning the scanning interface will be closed.

Irfanview has very rich & extremely strong setting option dialog for use of scanner. After you click on scan option from "file" list you will get this dialog. I take screen shoots for it. Please look to them & see the options.

If you accept this suggestion please notice the following: Irfanview have very nice property, which if you finish scanning process (even single image mode) you have option to NOT CLOSE SCANNING INTERFACE & if you select this (single image + not close TWAIN dialog after capture image) you can still shift you mouse pointer from TWAIN interface to Irfanview to save image then return pointer to TWAIN interface WITHOUT FREEZE. This is very important because many programs has no such ability & in later case user need to reopen TWAIN every time like to scan new image & this will be time consuming.

I select "Tools" in "component" & I'm not sure. Please correct to me if wrong.
Best

Let's make this Windows-specifc, as that TWAIN selection dialog is only used there).

About getting multiple images from a TWAIN source in one go:

We'd first have to have the ability to get multiple images from a TWAIN source. This is what bug 601821 is about - it even got a patch attached, and I have recently taken them time to get it to apply to the git master branch, and made this available as a branch called bug-601821.

However, as I'm not using the Windows platform, I can't test it. We did try to get some tests done by someone else who was also able to build this branch for the Windows platform - so we at least know it compiles - but was unable to get it it work. But as this person didn't have any TWAIN devices at all, we were only able to try a TWAIN test driver.

About not closing the dialog:

None of us has any knowledge about TWAIN. If you know what might have to be done here, have a look at the TWIN plug-in code and see if you can provide a patch.

I'm not programer & can not build patch.

However, I have idea: Irfanview developer is very kind I suspect that - if you give me permission - if I call him to assist you he will not refuse. I have previous contacts with him.

Nobody needs permission to do this. But it is likely that the UI code of IrfanView and GIMP is very different, so it isn't sure how transferable this will be.

But if there is anything special to take care of in the TWAIN part, then knowing about it would be helpful to anyone who thinks about creating a suitable change.
