I am beta testing the new MacOS Sierra, and when I started up GIMP today, all the menus were in Arabic, which is a language I have set under Mac's System Preferences, Language and Region. My default language is Canadian English. I removed the Arabic language under preferences and restarted GIMP. The menus now defaulted to Japanese, which was my third language installed, before I deleted the Arabic language. The issue was resolved by setting my second language choice to English (U.K.) under System Preferences, Language and Region. It appears that GIMP ignored the first, or default language choice, and automatically reverts to the second language in the list, that GIMP can interpret. What I mean by this is I also have a Scot's Gaelic language pack for my Mac, and when I set this as my second choice, GIMP reverted to the third language in the list, that being Japanese. So if the language is not supported by UTF or other means, then GIMP will pick the next supported language pack.
