Description Jeremy Bicha 2016-08-28 01:08:56 UTC
The old webkitgtk API is no longer being actively developed and likely has security issues fixed in the newer WebKit2 API.

Hi Jeremy,

Thanks for the report! Development and releases in the 2.5 series take place in the gtk3 branch, which has the option to configure with html widget = webkit2, although the default is still webkit. Master is still on gtk2, and is maintained largely only to issue bug-fix releases in the 2.4 series.

We could easily make webkit2 the default html widget in the gtk3 branch, and even remove webkit as an option. Is either of those what you would recommend?

Peter

Yes, I recommend removing support for the old webkit.

Here's a shorter blog post:

Comment 3 André Klapper 2021-06-01 22:42:13 UTC
GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org.
As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org
which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately
quite limited so not every ticket can get handled).

If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent
and supported software version, then please follow
  https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines
and create a new enhancement request ticket at
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/balsa/-/issues/

Thank you for your understanding and your help.
