>How-To-Repeat:
Logged out of x windows to command prompt only mode. Logged in as root to restart network. 5 minutes later started x windows with my accout and the panel crashed. Made  no changes while at command prompt just reboot the network. This has happened to me a few times before. Since I don't know to much about linux yet I just reinstall the o/s.

Did you change ip/hostname? Please try reproducing this with
gnome-core-1.4.0.6 and gnome-libs-1.4.1.4 or newer.
