Description johnebedford 2016-07-21 12:37:57 UTC
This issue is recurring again on Ubuntu MATE 16.04. It happens intermittently on two different machines, both fully updated. The assistive technologies are not loaded on startup (disabled in "Startup Applications" but it still occurs.

There was an old bug which has status "RESOLVED OBSOLETE". As requested there, I am opening a new bug.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=616261

Downstream see:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-mate/+bug/1605224

There are workarounds but these are hacks:
https://ubuntu-mate.community/t/issue-shutting-down-16-04-at-spi-registryd-desktop/5435
https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2321728
https://askubuntu.com/questions/792638/ubuntu-mate-16-04-restart-shut-down-halts-due-to-a-not-responding-program-how-t

A proper fix would be welcome.

I note that all the recent reports linked to above relate to Ubuntu MATE only.

Moving open tickets in at-spi2' "registry" Bugzilla component to "at-spi2-core" as it has a subdir called "registryd".
Comment 2 GNOME Infrastructure Team 2021-07-05 10:45:15 UTC
GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org.
As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org
which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately
quite limited so not every ticket can get handled).

If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent
and supported software version, then please follow
  https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines
and create a new ticket at
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/at-spi2-core/-/issues/

Thank you for your understanding and your help.
