GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 768937
There should be a way of accessing AppIndicator icons in Activities Overview
Last modified: 2018-07-13 19:15:40 UTC
I absolutely love the Activities Overview, it gives me my peace of mind, however there is one thing I feel is really lacking in it, and that is the ability to access my AppIndicator icons which are important to me. So I think that there really should be some way of accessing them there, be it just showing the normal tray, or even hiding it normally but revealing it when Shift is pressed or something. Or whatever it is, it would just be nice if there were some way of accessing the AppIndicator icons in the AO. I am running Ubuntu GNOME 16.04 with GNOME 3.20 and would really like to see this feature. I initially made this request here but thought I should also do so upstream: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1604175
We never supported AppIndicators (feel free to search the xdg-list archives from 2009/10 for the reasoning), and there are no plans for doing so. In case this is about the old legacy status icons, those are gone as well now (and wouldn't work properly in the overview anyway, due to the pointer grab).
