Description Milan Crha 2016-06-30 21:05:37 UTC
I just committed a change (commit 5b9e5c6) which makes it easier to make changes in the UI files by the users. I guess it'll be good to document it in some way, either by adding a paragraph about it or add it to the FAQ section of the User manual.

The commit message contains the description how the change works, I only didn't write there where the system .ui files can be found. It's usually in

   $PREFIX/share/evolution/ui/

thus quite often at

   /usr/share/evolution/ui/

but some distributions can have that changed.

Feel free to ask, if anything is unclear.

@mcrha: Alright, this is a solution. But what is the problem(s) solved by editing a .ui file? As a user, why would I want to read about changing a .ui file?
(Bonus: How to find the right .ui file?)

Is this an answer to "Is there a way to move icons in my toolbar and entries in the main menus?" which once upon a time was https://wiki.gnome.org/action/show/Apps/Evolution/FAQ#Is_there_a_way_to_move_the_icons_around_on_my_toolbar.3F ?

(Note to myself: The .ui files do not seem to contain keyboard shortcuts if I see it correctly, so bug 780329 is still valid and the way to go here.)

That might be the part of the answer too.

Correct, that's basically for the users looking for it. They happen to come around from time to time.
