GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 768259
Make Paint Dynamics Editor more compact
Last modified: 2018-05-24 16:31:02 UTC
Created attachment 330678 [details] Proposal to resolve icon preview and to have a dialog more compact With the new button to Icon Preview on the Paint Dynamics Dialog, I have studied a manner to reduce a bit the space of dialogs, matrix and edit curve of the paint dynamics. I have thought to simplify the labels of 'y' axis only with the initial capitalized. Is possible to think with small icons... but I think that is sufficient one capitalized label... we have not duplicates and are unique. An small tip, when you are over each label, could appear with the complete name of each parameter.
> I have thought to simplify the labels of 'y' axis only with the initial sorry, 'x' axis parameters!
I like that, but I'm not sure about the single-character labels that need tooltips. Any opinions from others?
In the original specifications was thought the 'x' axis parameters with small icons..., is a good way to avoid the issues with a single-character labels and the localization... and I don't have thought in this problem. http://gui.gimp.org/index.php/Paint_dynamics_specification
The single character labels might prove difficult for i18n... I expect some ambiguities there.
I can't tell what some of the icons in the draft are supposed to represent, though.

Pressure, Velocity, Direction and Random are clear. I think that is possible to use as source inspiration to build the icon set to 'x' axis parameters. I have made an small draft with the roughs of all icons... as a suggestion how is possible to represent better the parameters: Pressure, Tilt, Wheel and Fade. See attachment: rough-icons-x-parameters-of-paint-dynamics.png

Created attachment 330764 [details] Some studies and ideas around the icons I am not a specialist in icon design ;-) I have made an exercise to organize a bit more the ideas around the draft in: http://gui.gimp.org/index.php/Paint_dynamics_specification The icons are small, 16x16 pixels. I hope that this draft can be useful in specialist hands and to help build a set for the different themes of GIMP. I think that is not necessary to think different icons for all themes... perhaps is only a question create the series inverted, grayscale and a colored version. In this study, the colored version, I have used the same reference colors that (red, green, blue, orange, magenta, cyan, black).
