GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 767206
Add DAV provider : something else than Google
Last modified: 2017-05-29 13:15:53 UTC
Hello. Actually, Google and Owncloud are providing CalDAV and CardDAV services, I know, but there are people wanting to go away from Google, data sillos. And some people are not using OwnCloud anytime. There are CalDAV and CardDAV servers used by many people such as Baikal and Radicale which are really complete and offer interesting features (Contacts, Agenda, Tasklists and Memos/Notes). Evolution has this capabilities, but for each contact book, Agenda, Tasklist you must enter a link. That IS redundant and well, annoying. For OwnCloud, you just have to log in an account and you are set. For the DAVs outside OC, you must enter a link for every book you want. Why not have a built-in DAV connection? With the said features, we would be able to access to tasks, notes and calendars with the built-in Gnomes applications. If we can do it for Owncloud, why not the DAVs? Plus, that's a standard, then there are so much people that could be happy. If added in 3.24, I'd be happy, if in 3.22, I'd be happier. You deliver applications with online capabilities and are often open-source, why don't you use an open-standard right out the box?
