Description Robert Lee 2016-05-12 16:43:41 UTC
5-10-2016 I successfully downloaded photos from my Casio camera to my Dell PC (Windows 10, Microsoft 2013) GIMP/File after highlighting "Casio" in a GIMP page box. 5-12-2016 there is no option in GIMP/File to make a download. The camera reports "check connections". The cable connections to camera and PC are good.
Comment 1 Bastien Nocera 2016-05-12 16:48:23 UTC
Has nothing to do with GNOME, as GNOME doesn't run on Windows.
Comment 2 Michael Natterer 2016-05-12 17:23:09 UTC
What is a "GIMP page box"?

Regardless of the bug's wording, the chances of this being implemented
are close to zero because of lack of manpower. Especially on Windows we
have around zero active developers.

Asking this on the gimp-user mailing list would lead to a larger audience.

Maybe there's a TWAIN camera involved here.

Robert, we can't guess what your problem is, you have to provide more information.
Comment 5 Robert Lee 2016-05-21 15:24:40 UTC
I have found a way to download images, one at a time, from camera to GIMP.
Create, Scanner/Camera, [select WIA- F:\(name), Select, Get pictures from F:\(name), (select photos), Get Pictures, Save.
The automatically displayed "select WIA - F:(name)" name was "1.0(32-32)" and yielded one image, even though under "(select photos)" I included all 32 images. I tediously went back through the routine and eventually downloaded each of the 32 images. Apparently I would have needed to change (name) to include all images. How would I do this?

How can a download at set of "get images" from my camera to GIMP? I feel my comments and yours are in parallel but not necessarily related.
Comment 8 Michael Schumacher 2016-05-30 14:00:47 UTC
This might be related to bug 601821 - currently, you can't retrieve more than one image at a time from a TWAIN-connected scanner with a document feeder, if I'm not mistaken.

As many cameras connect as mass storage devices, we have no experience with those that don't - and we have no experience with TWAIN devices in general, otherwise the patches attached to bug 601821 and bug 357818 would have been applied already, and maybe you wouldn't have encountered that issue.

Portion of earlier message, "Create, Scanner/Camera, [select WIA-
F:\(name), Select, Get pictures from
F:\(name), (select photos), Get Pictures, Save.
The automatically displayed "select WIA - F:(name)" name was "1.0(32-32)"
and yielded one image,"

I suspect that the problem is with the "(name)". The '(name)" was
"1.0(32-32)".
Perhaps this "(name)" is interpreted as 1 image from the set of 32 images.
If true, there must be a different "(name)" that would yield all 32 images
in the Get Pictures request.

Please suggest appropriate "(name)" input.
Comment 10 Michael Schumacher 2016-06-03 07:16:44 UTC
As I wrote in comment 8, I don't think this is possible at the moment. If your camera also supports being connected as a mass storage device (i.e. gets a drive letter assigned), then I suggest you get the images this way.

I'm pretty sure retrieving multiple images via the TWAIN plug-in you're using right now requires bug 601821 to be fixed first.
