GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 765730
Loading font previews lags the entire window
Last modified: 2021-07-05 10:58:19 UTC
Originally reported at: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1576259 While font previews are loaded, the entire window lags. Scrolling or resizing it delays a lot. Works without problems here in 3.24.0, but maybe I don't have enough fonts, maybe my computer is too fast, maybe there are other factors. Is this still a problem in 3.24 or newer?
I had the following package installed, which had hundred of fonts: (https://packages.ubuntu.com/trusty/fonts/edubuntu-fonts). The root cause could be GTK+ waiting to load everything before presenting it, instead of loading the less important aspects passively on parallel.
GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org. As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately quite limited so not every ticket can get handled). If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent and supported software version, then please follow https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines and create a new ticket at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-font-viewer/-/issues/ Thank you for your understanding and your help.
