Doubt on string "Active discarding first port"
Last modified: 2016-03-22 22:23:23 UTC
While translating ChronoJump, I was unable to understand the meaning of the string "Active discarding first port" (from source files <rootdir>/glade/chronojump.glade.h:44 and <rootdir>/src/gui/chronojump.cs:6524). Is it an action like "Activate discarding first port"? Is it a state "active" of an option "first port discarding"? Is a type of "active discarding", opposite of "passive discarding", of "first port"? I kindly ask for information on this string.
Hello Rafael. That string is related to "Auto-detection of hardware". It can have three possible values: 1) Active (default) 2) Active discarding first port 3) Inactive Second option means: Auto-detection is active but first port will be disabled. On some Windows tablets first USB-serial COM port is never working, and second works perfectly. This option means something like: "use second port". But also is quite confusing because first port sometimes is COM3 and second is COM5. When user clicks on Help button, this is the help message: ---- Modes: - Active: Auto-detection on hardware is active. Default mode. - Active discarding first port: Use this option on computers where first port fails. - Inactive: Auto-detection on hardware is inactive. Use it if you have problems at start or at capture. ---- Do you have any suggestion on the string "Active discarding first port"? Thank you very much!
Thanks for explanation. How about "Active, discarding first port"? In any case, I believe adding a comment for translators[1] would be very interesting in order to avoid mistranslation. For example, "Active" in my native language (Brazilian Portuguese) can be translated as "Ativa" (female) or "Ativo" (male), depending on the context. Finally I have used your suggestion: "Active, discarding first port" Thanks a lot
