Even though I understand that we early on decided to move away from screensavers and to just have a black screen, not all users will like this. So I think that it would be good if there was at least the optional ability in the gnome-control-center to have a screensaver.

This would be good because some still do want a screensaver rather than just a black screen, and even if it is not the default, there should at least be an option allowing it because most third-party tools seem to just break things as they are not integrated very well...

I initially reported this issue here but thought I should also do it upstream: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/1488077

We don't support screen "savers", sorry.

But why not? I understand you've gone for just a black screen, but that doesn't mean you still can't give people the option... Because a lot of people would like to have screensaver but can't, so I think you should at least provide the option...

Because options have costs. This has already been discussed at length in other bug reports, on blogs and on the GNOME mailing-lists. Please refer to those.

I am really sorry to hear that you wont consider reinstating the screen saver. Many people still use it and it serves a good purpose.Gnome is the only desktop that I know of that has dropped their screen saver. Even windows 10 has one. If you dont like to use one just simply turn it off.It would not take much time or resources to include it in the desktop.Xscreen saver will work but you have to set gnome to not lock screen and add it to your start up. It works just fine, but most people dont know how to do that. Thanks for any consideration in this mater.
