Description Jo 2016-02-29 22:02:36 UTC
layer/layer folder renaming works always only in a second try

example.
1- i doubleclick the layer/layer folder
2- i write a new name and write something- gimp interrupts me on half way, before i can confirm with enter
3- i have to write the new name a second time
Comment 1 Jehan 2016-02-29 23:50:42 UTC
Strange bug. What do you mean "gimp interrupts"? Like a popup or something?
Do you reproduce this every time or is it random?
Comment 2 Jo 2016-03-07 13:01:37 UTC
no, the layer name reverts back to its original name meanwhile i write, as if i would have cancelled suddenly
The bug occurs most of the time but not always. My layer structure looks like:
several layers (5) ungrouped at the top, 6-10 layers grouped in a layer folder at the bottom. The bug occurs inside and outside a layer group, but that shouldn't play a role.
Comment 3 Michael Schumacher 2016-03-07 13:38:53 UTC
Maybe something is cancelling the edit, for example by taking the input focus away from GIMP?
Comment 4 Jo 2016-03-08 11:45:55 UTC
first i use the mouse (double-click) to edit the name of the layer (group) and then i witch to the keyboard for the renaming. Theres no other application interfering, usually when i work with Gimp i need no other application. It seems that the switch from the tablet or the mouse to the keyboard causes -the- interference.
Theres also some strange flipper behavior between the input devices, see: bug 738327

would be handy to use the enter key to edit layer(s) (groups) followed by the renaming, so everything happens on the keyboard.
Comment 5 Michael Schumacher 2016-03-08 14:46:21 UTC
Hm... so is this a timed thing, e.g. does this also happen when you type just one letter and wait, or do you have to keep typing for this to happen?
Comment 6 Jo 2016-03-14 23:21:40 UTC
as soon as i start typing, the bug appairs.
example.
when i type in a letter, the letter is swallowed up and the layer (group) returns back like before.

the key to start renaming a layer name is F2.
Comment 8 Jo 2016-03-15 13:05:31 UTC
first, a correction. The key "Enter" works when i want to edit a layer(group)

> the key to start renaming a layer name is F2.

true. But like Enter, it does absolutely nothing if the focus is on the canvas and not on the dock/dialog. Unfortunately.

Well when the focus is on the canvas many tools use the enter
key, usually to accept the current state, so it would be difficult
to understand when the user wants to start editing the layer name

anyway yes you have to move the focus to the layer dialog
Comment 10 Jo 2016-03-15 22:26:34 UTC
thank you nevertheless for the hint to use f2, so the renaming happens with the keyboard only, and the focus -shouldnt- change.
Not sure if enter or f2 makes the difference, but ill try it!
(i got this bug even with enter)
