tip of the day dialog

I use Debian and GNOME and it seems that dialogs don't have a X button to close.

So the "Tip of the day" dialog can't be closed by the click of a button.
I have to right click the title and select close.

So maybe add a close button to the dialog.
Comment 1 Michael Natterer 2016-02-17 16:38:36 UTC
Is that the entire dialog? There are no window decorations at all?
Comment 2 scootergrisen 2016-02-17 17:56:00 UTC
Yep.
You can see the rounded corners at the top corners.

Comment 4 Michael Natterer 2016-02-17 18:01:38 UTC
I'm on debian unstable and GNOME shell, and the tips dialog has a title
bar with close button, can you perhaps try a different window manager
theme, or otherwise check the window manager settings? I've never seen
this before. Does any other dialog in any other program have the same
problem?
Comment 5 scootergrisen 2016-02-17 18:03:45 UTC
Yeah VLC have same problem with about dialog.
Comment 6 Michael Natterer 2016-02-17 18:09:24 UTC
And all other dialogs have window manager close buttons?
Comment 7 scootergrisen 2016-02-17 18:20:45 UTC
Inkscape, ChatZilla extenstion for Iceweasel, KDiff3, Audacity, QT Linguist also don't have.

It might be that QT don't honor a flag to show the X button, i think i read.
I don't know if all the programs are made with QT.

The built-in programs i have dont seem to have the same dialogs with tiny titlebar, they have some text buttons inside the titlebar and are bigger and stuff, so i dont know if they are the same type of dialogs.
Comment 8 scootergrisen 2016-02-17 18:26:11 UTC
There are no x button with these window theme:
Adwaita (default)
HighContrast

The others does have the x button.

Sadly Adwaita is the default.
Comment 9 Michael Natterer 2016-02-17 22:14:18 UTC
I'm on Adwaita here too. I don't see what GIMP would be doing wrong,
probably nothing, and the other programs probably not either.

I think you should report this against the window manager. Is it
gnome-shell? We can reassign the bug within this bug tracker then.
Comment 10 scootergrisen 2016-02-18 14:55:47 UTC
I don't know if its gnome-shell.
I think its the default what ever that is.
Comment 11 Michael Natterer 2016-02-26 22:11:15 UTC
Well that's your job to find out :)
Comment 12 scootergrisen 2016-02-27 15:02:06 UTC
How can i check?
Comment 13 Michael Natterer 2016-02-27 15:43:37 UTC
Check the installed packages, and what processes are running.
Comment 14 scootergrisen 2016-02-27 15:47:53 UTC
gnome-shell is running.
Comment 15 Michael Natterer 2016-02-27 15:51:23 UTC
Ok, I'm on gnome-shell 3.18.3 and it works fine, what's your version?
Try "gnome-shell --version".
Comment 16 scootergrisen 2016-02-27 15:53:43 UTC
GNOME Shell 3.14.4

It depends on the selected window theme in Tweak.
Some show a close button, some don't.
Can you try all of them.
Comment 17 Michael Natterer 2016-02-27 23:09:52 UTC
IMO the themes which don't show a close button are simply broken,
simply use one which does?
Comment 18 scootergrisen 2016-02-28 15:07:25 UTC
I don't know what the norm is, but for new users to Linux this is not so nice because it is the default theme that have the problem.

It might have been fixed in a later version. I don't know.
Comment 19 Michael Schumacher 2016-03-06 11:42:38 UTC
You should probably bring this up with the creators of the theme.
Comment 20 scootergrisen 2016-03-06 15:33:12 UTC
Ok.
Comment 21 Michael Natterer 2016-03-16 20:24:46 UTC
I'm reassigning this to gnome-shell, they are the ones who can
give proper advice here. My guess is that this is fixed in a
recent version, but again only they can tell.

Yup, that guess is spot-on ...
