GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 761976
Disambiguate the word "Review"
Last modified: 2016-02-23 11:36:23 UTC
The word "Review" is now ambiguous and needs a translation context. "Review (browse) updates" is a different translation than "Review (evaluate) an application".
Created attachment 321048 [details] [review] Fixes the problem Sorry if it is not appropriate to mark this bug report as urgent but that's what I think about this issue. It is already misleading the translators.
Pushed to master, thanks.
OK, the major problem is fixed but I think that the translators still need a more detailed context because it seems to me that since app reviews have been introduced they tend to replace their old correct translation of "Review" (as for "Review the installed updates") with the new translation which is correct in the context like "Review (evaluate) this application". Examples: de.po: +msgctxt "updates" msgid "Review" -msgstr "Überprüfen" +msgstr "Rezension" sr@latin.po +msgctxt "app review" +msgid "Review" +msgstr "Pregled" +msgctxt "updates" msgid "Review" -msgstr "Recenzija" +msgstr "Pregled" (here above I suspect the opposite case: mistaking "Reviews" for "Browses") es.po: +msgctxt "app review" msgid "Review" -msgstr "Revisión" +msgstr "Opinión" +msgctxt "updates" +msgid "Review" +msgstr "Opinar" Also I think that the word "Reviews" must be commented and explained. It is not ambiguous in terms of being used in multiple contexts which require different translation because it occurs only once but it is ambiguous because the translator may not understand what is the context of this single occurrence.
Created attachment 321912 [details] [review] More translator comments This could be something like that. Please proofread and feel free to reword if my English is not perfect.
Pushed, thanks Rafal.
