Description efliegel58 2016-02-08 01:06:22 UTC
I downloaded the software, but it freezes while loading and will not open. This has apparently been an issue as far back as 2005, but none of the other threads on this site talking about it give a solid answer. I need help!

This is probably just font-cache building.
Just be patient. Start GIMP, then leave it alone ..don't even touch the mouse or keyboard.

A user on one of the forums recently reported that it takes 7-10 minutes on El Capitan:
http://gimpforums.com/thread-gimp-and-osx-el-capitan-i-m-stuck?pid=46196#pid46196

As far as I am aware, that is the first indication that *anybody* has ever actually given us for how long it does actually take on El Capitan, so perhaps you could let us know how long it takes on your machine.

I redownloaded the app and tried again, and it did finally load after 3 or so minutes. I tried again today and it took no time at all. Not sure why the first download wouldn't open, but it's fixed now. Thank you very much!

Let's assume this is a duplicate of bug 449848 then.
