GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 761508
Unable to type in upper case using capslock in certain GNOME Shell areas
Last modified: 2018-07-21 13:22:30 UTC
After a fresh install, in a few days (and I have tried many fresh installs and the issue still persists) I will not be able to use the CAPSLOCK key to get upper case letters in the search text box in the Activities Overview, in the box that comes up to ask for one's password when authenticating something requiring root permissions, and on the locked screen which asks for one's password in order to log in (it does not occur on the login screen where I am asked for my password in order to log in, so only once I have actually logged in does it occur). The CAPSLOCK key works perfectly fine in all other places (or at least I haven't found anywhere else where it fails), though in those particular ones I have to use the SHIFT key in order to get any upper case letters. And when I press the CAPSLOCK key the green light on my keyboard does go on even though it doesn't make any other impact seemingly on anything. As I said before, I have tried many installs, and the problem has been around for many months now. Though it wasn't present in 3.16, I don't know if it would be present in 15.10 with 3.16 because I always upgrade to 3.18 and have never stopped to wait and see. I initially report this issue here, but thought I should also do so upstream: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-gnome/+bug/1535931 --- OS Information: No LSB modules are available. Distributor ID: Ubuntu Description: Ubuntu 15.10 Release: 15.10 Codename: wily Flavour: GNOME GNOME Version: 3.18
I also get this bug. Interestingly, on my machine this bug occurs when LANG=zh_CN.utf8, but does not occur when LANG=en_US.utf8. @<cooks.go.hungry@gmail.com> Are you also using a non-English locale? --- OS Information: LSB Version: unavailable Distributor ID: Linux From Scratch Description: Linux From Scratch Release: 20160206-systemd Codename: xry111
No, all I know is that I installed "English (UK)" using the built-in feature in the gnome-control-center and then finished it off with the gnome-language-selector because the built-in feature didn't install all the extra necessary language packs for some reason. I haven't tried using the "English (US)" language pack though to see if there is a difference, I might try that and let you know if it is the same.
I have now also experienced the issue in Ubuntu GNOME 16.04 Beta 1 with GNOME 3.19.
Though this doesn't normally make a difference, after recently changing my password the problem went away on my Ubuntu GNOME 15.10 with GNOME 3.18 machine... Though it will probably come back in a while and is still present in my VM installation of Ubuntu GNOME 16.04 Beta2 with GNOME 3.20.
Seems fixed in GNOME 3.22.
Yes, not experiencing this any more on GNOME 3.28 and Arch. Shall it be marked as "FIXED" then?
Yeah ...
