GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 761242
Window grouping
Last modified: 2018-07-21 14:48:13 UTC
I think that a really good feature would be one that would allow you to move multiple windows at once by joining them all together at their edges so that when one is moved, the others move with it and it can be minimized etc and resized as just one large window. This would be very useful especially when wanting to move multiple windows to another workspace or monitor. And when I posted a question about it here I noticed a lot of people expressing how much they wanted such a feature and had been looking for a similar one for quite some time (not all of this was written to me on the question): https://askubuntu.com/questions/681259/window-grouping I initially filed the report here but was told to also do so upstream: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-gnome/+bug/1502670
Which gnome-shell version was this tested with? Setting the "Version" field is welcome.
Which version was what tested with?
I assume you used gnome-shell before realizing that your missing window grouping. :) I'm asking for the gnome-shell version you use(d). Please set the "Version" field accordingly.
Oh right, I thought that one only sets that field for actual bug reports rather than feature requests... Because I thought that new features would just go into the latest version (currently probably 3.19.x) and then be possibly backported into previous versions if you wanted that...? I didn't realise that I should give the version I noticed it wasn't present in... Should I do that for all my feature requests? And why exactly do you need to know which version I was using when I noticed that it wasn't a thing? Because that probably won't affect with version it goes into, and it's not present in any of them so far so... I just don't really see the point, but I'll set it if you say so! :)
Do you want just the version of the package set or also the "GNOME Version" field set?
There are plans to do something like that for tiled windows: https://wiki.gnome.org/GeorgesNeto/MinutesOfFeaneron/Tiling Some of the bits are in-place ("tandem-resize"), some we had to back down from ("randem-raise") and most of them are unimplemented. There's no ETA, but it's fair to say that we don't need this bug to track it. (Sorry for closing bugs more aggressively, we want to get numbers down to a reasonable amount for migrating to gitlab)
