Just be patient.
The first time you start GIMP after installing or ugrading to OSX 10.11, GIMP has to build the font cache which can take many minutes, though quite how long we dont know. Start GIMP and then just leave it alone, don't even touch the keyboard. Get a cup of coffee, read the newspaper or go for a walk and when you come back you will probably find GIMP up and running. If you have the patience, perhaps you could keep an eye on your machine and tell us just how long it does actually take - is it 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 20 minutes, longer ?

BTW claytonwalker was the guy who created the DMG for GIMP on Mac OSX:
http://www.gimpusers.com/forums/gimp-developer/14812-gimp-1-8-2-for-mac-official-build
though quite why the GIMP package would be looking for his username I have no idea!

There's probably some directory reference somewhere. It would be interesting to know where exactly you spotted this.
Comment 3 Michael Natterer 2016-02-12 21:57:44 UTC
foil204, which files exactly was GIMP looking for in the "claytonwalker"
home?
Comment 4 Max Mustermann 2016-04-16 22:41:55 UTC
I was the successor of Clayton Walker to create the OS X build 2.8.14. Kristian Rietvelds build of GIMP 2.8.16 is based on this.
I explicitly took care not to include any account name into the build. To be sure I just ran 'fgrep -a -r claytonwalker .' in the GIMP.app 2.8.14 and 2.8.16 files (which are actually directories) and found none.
Could it be that you have many GIMP installations on your system? If so, please clean up and retry again. Make sure to use the latest official GIMP build from our website.

The long pause or hang at startup might be a duplicate of bug 449848 or bug 762436. Please be a bit patient. Is it only at first startup?

Your answer within three weeks would be appreciated - thank you.
Comment 5 Kristian Rietveld 2016-04-17 08:37:16 UTC
Very likely a duplicate of 449848. When caching the fonts GIMP becomes completely unresponsive for up to 5 minutes. We must fix the GIMP such that the main loop is pulsed while performing the font indexing.
