GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 760009
Summary tooltip for nm-applet
Last modified: 2016-01-25 10:33:47 UTC
It would be nice, if the nm-applet could show a short status summary via tooltipp. Especially for users with different connections, for example vpn servers, this would be very useful.
For this feature it would be helpful if you could elaborate what this status tooltip could contain.
The tooltip could countain: - case offline: "Not connected" - case online: "Connected to $connection_name [- VPN $vpn_name]"
I wonder what nm-applet version you use? nm-applet shows such a tooltip (for a long time). If I move the mouse pointer over nm-applet icon, it shows a tooltip with "No network connection" or "Ethernet network connection 'eth0' active", ... (nm-applet 1.0.10).
Oh. I use xfce, which includes nm-applet within the xfce4-indicator-plugin. It seems that xfce4-indicator-plugin is absorbing the tooltip. My proposal seem to be pointless or in the wrong place.
If some wants to track this topic... I filed a bug for Xfce4-indicator-plugin: https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12417

Is an active vpn connection shown too?

Yes, it is. See the attachment.
