Description Support-Team 2015-12-10 10:10:08 UTC
Coming with Fedora 23 to a fresh installed Laptop, the desktop icons are too big by default and can not be resized to the needed minimal size.

This report only covers the icons on the desktop area, for programms to be started, not in any dock or menu, those are fine.

Best described, the smallest possible size is something, a senior at 65 years of age, would need as a minimal. 20 years less in age, and it a waste of space on the desktop :)

I can resize the icon to 1/4 of the screen, but that's the opposite of what i need.

Question:

Is it possible to SET the needed minimal size somewhere ?
changeing the index.theme MinSizes to 8 did not help, it just crashed the gnome session :)

Do i need to compile my own version of gnome to get this ?

Out of interest, why is everyone on the web suggesting to change the minimal icon size in Nautilus to fix the desktop icon sizes ?

Why is Nautilus responsible for the icon size on the desktop at all, if this is true ?

I'm really confused as to what you're requesting. GNOME 3 does not put icon on the desktop. I'm guessing this is about a default size of icons in nautilus?
Comment 3 Support-Team 2015-12-10 16:12:25 UTC
it's about those icons your see, when you have a desktop file in Desktop drawer of you home directory.

.desktop launchers in ~/Desktop at their default size

I'm not seeing the ~/Desktop location changing size of the launcher icons for .desktop items in any way.
Comment 5 Support-Team 2015-12-10 16:24:57 UTC
NOT INSIDE of Nautilus, on the GNOME desktop itself..

Like in WinXP .. Icons of programs on the Desktop to click them. Desktopicons :)

I really was confused as i heared that the size of those icons would be controlled by nautilus. I guess it's a big misunderstanding, right?

I guess he's referring the size of icons in the shell overview.
The ones you see when you trow the pointer in the upper left corner, right?

those icons and sizes are meant.

you see the entire desktop, you have to admit, the smallest size is still big.

bug in nautilus ( no clue how that got configured )

i have no idea which setting made this bar appear on top of the directories,
but it also crases nautilus if you want to open the preferences window.

That is fixed in 3.18.2. Please file a bug for each issue (not need for this one though)

Yes, nautilus manages the icon sizes, the desktop it's just a nautilus window.

The sizing on nautilus is hard to manage, so until we have a better history with the canvas, the biggest and smallest sizes of icons is restricted and it's a known issue.

removing target milestone, probably I mark it as it accidentally.

i just uploaded a screenshot after the upgrade from F21 to F23 3.18.2

I wished i never did that!!

Those are the SMALLTEST possible icons.. now tell me, that you do not fix this again.

That is a reason to switch desktops ! I had a perfectly good desktop icons size with F21 :-(

How do I get rid of those lines on nautilus ( left side ) ?
That it is able to, shows the filechoosercontext on the right side.

Where is my DELETE File context menu gone to ?

Do I really have to compile my own version of nautilus, just to get rid of those icon sizes ?

Font scaling does effect anything, except those parts who need it most ( icons and listentries ) :(
Comment 15 Support-Team 2016-03-31 07:44:50 UTC
Workaround: Buy a bigger display.

The smallest iconsize is barely acceptable on a full hd display.

Hope you still working on it.

We added a smaller zoom level. I believe this is fixed.
