Bug 759144 - runtime error forcing program termination
runtime error forcing program termination

Description Grobeknob 2015-12-07 21:34:35 UTC
OS: XP SP3, Norwegian.
Gimp: Portable version (portableapps)
Ram: 1,99 Gb

Steps to reproduce:
* Open any image file with Gimp (I drag file icon from explorer into a desktop shortcut to GIMPPortable.exe)
* When Gimp opens - use mouse wheel to zoom some + drag the canvs to change size. This step may be neccesary to repeat some times in order for the error to occur.

Other factors:
* Some keyboard shortcuts (and for mouse wheel, it now increase/decrease brush size) are changed the way I'm familiar with. Except from that - installation of Gimp is pretty much clean.
* Forget about the above point. Just tested with a clean install (unpack) portable version - still crash.
* Office 2007 is installed on this computer.
* I did NOT get this error with version 2.8.10 - even if the settings is pretty much the same. (I got similar errors with 2.8.14)
* When I installed (unpacked) 2.8.16 over the 2.8.10 folder, that error message came up once the program window appear to be ready.

I put severity=blocker because, under normal work in Gimp, it crash within the first ten seconds - when I pan and adjust canvas windo before I actual start to work.

The error message says (before terminating Gimp and reject any non-saved work):
---------------------------
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
---------------------------
Runtime Error!
Program: E:\ProgramZ\Grafikk\GIMP\App\gimp\bin\gimp-2.8.exe

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.

OK

I've seen similar bug filed, but from other versions. I haven't tried to backtrace - If I'm asked for that I will, but need instructions on how.
If it helps, I can also upload the whole gimpportable folder so the settings can be examined.

I also get this error message:
GNU Image Manipulation Program have a problem and need to close. We are sorry for that (translated from norwegian)

Error signature
AppName: gimp-2.8.exe AppVer: 2.8.16.0 ModName: libgobject-2.0-0.dll

We do not track bugs of third-party packages here - can you reproduce the same with the installer from https://www.gimp.org/downloads/ ?

I have now installed Gimp - and I have the same problem. After a fresh install, it takes more tries to reproduce the bug.

Steps to reproduce (this time)
* Fresh install.
* Open a JPG image file
* Wait until Gimp finnish loading.
* Do a lot of canvas window resizing (by dragging corners with mouse) + zoom in/out.

I now got this error:
GNU Image Manipulation Program have a problem and need to close. We are sorry for that (translated from norwegian)

Error signature
AppName: gimp-2.8.exe AppVer: 2.8.16.0 ModName: libpixman-1-0.dll
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 00084e71

Technical information: Not able to retreive info this time.

Update:

I now was able to reproduce the error, only by do a lot of resizing to the canvas. I did not zoom after image loaded. Exept from that I did exactly as described in last post.

Error signature:
AppName: gimp-2.8.exe AppVer: 2.8.16.0 ModName: libpixman-1-0.dll
