The gedit developers already agree to relicense the code to LGPLv2.1+. The gspell code comes from gedit, but GspellInlineCheckerGtv initially comes from GtkSpell (version 2.0.2), and GtkSpell was and is still licensed under the GPL.

For GtkSpell 2.0.2, the copyright is:

Also, currently gspell-language.c is partly based on code taken from Epiphany, with the following copyright:

But it is planned to remove the dependency to the libxml (see bug #757848), and use e.g. the code from GtkHtml, which is LGPLv2+:
