GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 757908
GIMP should provide some APIs for handling font feature
Last modified: 2018-05-24 15:55:22 UTC
Hello everyone, Since Pango provided attributes to let alternative glyphs specified with OpenType features useful, GIMP should also providing a full functional APIs that can be used for handling OpenType feature, this is very useful if some people want to create a new plugin that depand on specified font feature, such as vertical writing filter. I hope this will be available in the new version of GIMP, to bring benefit to other developers.
What you could do to get this into a new version (most likely 3.0): find someone who wants to contribute this to GIMP.

Yes, I hope the new API will be available in GIMP 3. I submit this bug because I think adding interfaces into Text Tool to set font feature is limited, introduce new API can extend this function.

Eh, I have not noticed you have more unstable releases in 2.x branch before this news (http://www.gimp.org/news/2015/11/22/20-years-of-gimp-release-of-gimp-2816/). Now I think adding this new function in GIMP 3 is not bad, but landed in 2.x branch will be better.
I have added two developers in CC list, I think they will give you contribute.
