gedit 3.10 is quite old. Opening the file with gedit 3.18 works fine, but there are invalid characters in it.

It would be easier to test this bug to know the correct character encoding of the file… Is it something different than UTF-8?

Anyway, when bug #669448 will be fixed, the auto-detection will work better.
