If a file has a very long name, the properties dialog becomes very wide. I think it would be more visually pleasing if the file properties dialog's default width would always be less wide than the default width of the nautilus window. A lower default width would also mean less distance to travel with the mouse pointer when switching tabs.

Thanks for the report. Fixed now by commit ee77cd41c4c16946555f0f3928a6e9484ae580c2
