GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 754177
Missing GenericName
Last modified: 2015-09-21 15:43:37 UTC
There is no GenericName in ca.desrt.dconf-editor.desktop
The GenericName isn’t required, IIRC the Desktop Entry Specification[1]. What’s the reasoning for this bug? What do you suggest? [1] http://standards.freedesktop.org/desktop-entry-spec/desktop-entry-spec-latest.html
There are many not required, but very useful keys like Keywords in Specification. GenericName is tooltip for Classic Menu KDE. GenericName is menu item for Modern Menu KDE. Do you want to be in KDE menu nice?
Looks like the “Comment” tag should be used as tooltip. If KDE does something strange here, I cannot help. Using the “GenericName” as a menu item is a logical idea. But what do you suggest as a GenericName? there’s no other graphical application doing the same thing, for what I know.
GenericName=Configuration editor for dconf X-GNOME-FullName=dconf confuguration editor With according GNOME desktop file policy if to add GenericName, then X-GNOME-FullName must be added also.
OK, I see. I’ll take care of that in the 3.20 cycle, as we’re in string freeze for a long time now. Thanks for the reporting. =)
I added the GenericName you suggested, and finally not a X-GNOME-Fullname, after reading the GnomeGoal[1]. That will be for 3.19/3.20. [1] https://wiki.gnome.org/Initiatives/GnomeGoals/CorrectDesktopFiles
