Description Till Schäfer 2015-07-31 15:24:11 UTC
Currently, the autoconnect feature is disabled for VPN Connections (only tested openvpn and vpnc, but i assume this applies to all VPN connections). It would be helpful to make this feature available, i.e. that a VPN can automatically connect, whenever any connection comes up / full connectivity is established for any interface..

Use case:
I have a openvpn connection to some remote network and want to be able to access network shares, etc in this network whenever I am online. It does not matter which interface is used or if a specific wireless network is used. It should just work without any user interaction, whenever it is possible to connect (similar to the openvpn@ init scripts / unit files)

Making the vpn a secondary for a specific configured connection is not sufficient, since:
1. I need to configure this for every single wifi i connect to
2. If i make the vpn a secondary for both the wired and the wireless connection of my NB, I am unable to connect to the wired and the wireless connection simultaneously, because of their common secondary.

I was able to enable auto connect to VPN using this command from a terminal:

$ nm-connection-editor

But I still didn't get everything totally working. See:

bugzilla.gnome.org is being shut down in favor of a GitLab instance.
We are closing all old bug reports and feature requests in GNOME Bugzilla which have not seen updates for a long time.

If you still use NetworkManager and if you still see this bug / want this feature in a recent and supported version of NetworkManager, then please feel free to report it at https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/NetworkManager/NetworkManager/-/issues/

Thank you for creating this report and we are sorry it could not be implemented (workforce and time is unfortunately limited).
