GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 752840
With Adwaita Dark Theme, it's hard to distinguish read conversations form unread ones
Last modified: 2019-01-15 06:40:10 UTC
This is sort of a duplicate of 714984, so I am sorry for bringing it up again. It is also my experience that one cannot easily distinguish read conversations form unread ones when using Gnome's Adwaita theme. I recently switched to Adwaita Dark Mode (Global Dark Theme) and now the situation is even worse for me. I hardly see any difference between the bold heading of an unread thread and the regular heading on read thread. The small closed letter symbol is the only visual distinction left. In my experience, this is too little a difference when I want to focus quickly on my unread messages.

I think this is really a duplicate of bug 714984. In fact, I don't see a big difference between the default and the dark theme of Adwaita (see attachments). In both cases, the unread icon and the bold title help to recognize the unread message. If you think it's not enough, we should implement a style which makes it stand a bit more *on both themes* (light and dark). What do you suggest? What other email clients do? By the way, if you disable the preview in the Preferences, unread vs read is more distinct, isn't it? I'll mark this as dependent on Bug 730682 - Refine the conversation list
Yeah, this should hopefully improve with Bug 730682, which uses both better fonts and an indented border indicator.
Resolving as obsolete all bugs that should be resolved by the conversation list redesign (https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=730682). I'd mark them as a duplicate, but bz won't let me :( Apologies for the noise.
