Description Michael Catanzaro 2015-07-07 02:22:30 UTC
Sometimes when I change my status from Available to Offline in Empathy, GNOME Shell hangs. The hang does not usually happen, but when it does, it is usually a brief hang (5 to 10 seconds or less). Sometimes it hangs for much longer (30 seconds or longer); in these cases I switch to a tty and 'killall -SIGHUP gnome-shell' to get it working again.
Comment 1 Michael Catanzaro 2015-07-13 23:02:08 UTC
I hit this again today when disabling a Jabber account in the Online Accounts panel of gnome-control-center.
Comment 2 Alexandre Franke 2017-11-05 17:25:43 UTC
GNOME Shell does not deal with IM status anymore.
Comment 3 Michael Catanzaro 2017-11-06 00:23:47 UTC
I doubt this has been fixed. The shell doesn't display IM status anymore, but it still has telepathy integration code.
Comment 4 GNOME Infrastructure Team 2021-07-05 14:17:48 UTC
GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org.
As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org
which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately
quite limited so not every ticket can get handled).

If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent
and supported software version, then please follow
  https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines
and create a new ticket at
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/issues/

Thank you for your understanding and your help.
