GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 752008
f-spot import impossibly slow
Last modified: 2017-03-21 22:57:45 UTC
Hi, after upgrading an Ubuntu laptop to 15.04, Ubuntu's f-spot had been removed, so finally a transition to shotwell appeared to be in order. The laptop is an old Core2Duo, so it's not a new machine, but not too slow, either. The shotwell binary is 0.20.2 as provided by Ubuntu. The existing f-spot library had a bit more than 40000 photos. Starting shotwell for the first time, it offered to import the existing f-spot library. Importing began on Wednesday and the computer spent more than five days working on it. Final odditiy: At the end of the import, shotwell produced TWO "Shotwell Import Log" dialogs. The first report said that shotwell imported about 39000 photos and that the remaining photos were duplicates. (Fair enough.) The second report consisted of more than 40000 duplicates and 9 new photos.
Can you provide a sysprof[1] or callgrind log from the inport operation? [1] https://blogs.gnome.org/chergert/2016/04/19/how-to-sysprof/
Hi Jens, I reported this bug in June 2015 and have since moved on. There are no logs from back then and the computer is now on Ubuntu 16.04 where f-spot is not available. Thanks, Hanno
Yeah, sorry about that. I just took over shotwell.
