GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 75180
Nautilus Desktop directory should not be hidden
Last modified: 2004-12-22 21:47:04 UTC
Windows user in particularly like being able to save files to their desktop ( eg. files downloaded from the web). however since the desktop directory is hidden most file selectors (gtk, mozilla) can not see the directory. 2 possible solutions: --------------------- 1. replace .gnome-desktop directly with Desktop in the users home directory 2. Create a symlink in the users home directory (Desktop) to the .gnome-desktop. I'd prefer solution one personally but either is probably acceptable.
Seth: haven't we gone through the whole hidden/not-hidden desktop discussion before? Not coming down on one side or another, just trying to avoide reopening old flamewars :)
We've gone through this. Darin has previously stated that he thought "~/Desktop" would be a better location than a hidden directory. This was a long time ago though, when Miguel was making the patch to .gnome-desktop instead of .nautilus/desktop or whatever the heck it was. Anyway, I think it should be visible at the least.

marking as a dupe of the move to ~desktop bug, even though $home should definately be the destkop :) *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 94612 ***
