Description Artemy Tregubenko 2015-06-21 09:43:07 UTC
I used Gedit to edit a file on a network share. Now when I attempt to start Gedit while having no access to this network share, Gedit doesn't render anything in the window. So I see no menu, no toolbar, no tabs, just the default window background.

Steps to reproduce:
1) open a file from CIFS share in Gedit
2) close Gedit
3) disable network
4) try to start Gedit

I see this problem in Gedit 3.10.4 on Ubuntu 15.04

The 3.10 version is an old version, no longer supported.
With gedit 3.16 (and maybe 3.14 too), there is now an info bar telling that the network is disconnected. So chances are that this bug is fixed with gedit 3.16.

Can you test with gedit 3.16 or later? On Ubuntu it can be difficult (the best is to use Jhbuild), but with a live-USB/DVD of Fedora Workstation 22, you'll get the latest stable GNOME version.

Tried it in Fedora 22, everything works fine. Suppose this is because it doesn't have the "recent files" feature anymore.

I assume I should report that to Ubuntu now.
