GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 750156
Gnome-terminal in Adwaita shrinks to minimum size
Last modified: 2017-10-04 10:56:04 UTC
When I open a terminal in the Adwaita 3.14 theme in Ubuntu 15.04, the terminal window shrinks to 1 character by 1 character. I can use the corner resize to make the window bigger, but it immediately shrinks to 1x1. There are a few x,y combinations that allow the window to stay at the desired size, but if you're off by a pixel, the window shrinks to 1x1. After I switched the theme from Adwaita to the Ambiance theme, new gnome-terminals do not shrink when created or resized. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-terminal/+bug/1451944
Since the gtk3 version of Adwaita was moved into gtk+, these bugs belong there.
I don't see how Adwaita could be involved here, moving to gnome-terminal.
Most likely the window manager is responsible for interpreting the size hints incorrectly. If it's gnome-shell, then -> gnome-shell. Otherwise NOTGNOME (file unity bugs on launchpad).
If this is this still reproducible using vte 0.50.1 and gnome-terminal 3.26, please reopen.
