We've been struggling to avoid clashes where mate forks of gnome software use identical icons and metadata. An app's icon should really be part of its identity, you don't want to take it from a general icon theme, and risk identity theft.

gedit should install both a fullcolor and a symbolic version of its app icon.

I waited for the start of the cycle, this is now done in master.


The icon is a copy of accessories-text-editor though... should we ask designers to create a more specific icon?
