Description Eduardo Silva 2015-02-27 00:30:13 UTC
It takes a while to position the dragged file on top of a destination folder, more if it resides in the sideview and one doesn't want to create a bookmark, and in that time nautilus opens up that folder.
If just wanting to do a simple dnd to a top-level folder, after finishing it one ends up in a different folder than initially.

1 - Increasing the timeout before opening folders in dnd operations, even if slightly, could fix this.

2 - Or else, when finishing the dnd operation, switching back the current directory to the original one.

Or am I being too lazy with having to click back everytime?

Thanks for taking the time to report this.

For various reasons, including the one, the "open folder on hover while dragging" behaviour was made optional and can be disabled in dconf-editor (search for the key "open-folder-on-dnd-hover").

Further discussion on improving this behaviour is tracked on bug 754455, so I'm marking this one as a duplicate.
