GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 744882
Easytag assumes TDRC timestamp in ID3v2.4 is invalid and erases anything other than the year
Last modified: 2015-02-21 08:48:46 UTC
I've tested this with Easytag v2.2.6 with libid3tag 0.15.1b in Arch Linux. TDRC refers to Recording time (replaced ID3v1 year and ID3v2.3 TDAT,TIME,TRDA and TYER) This was originally reported on the mailing list in 2009 (https://mail.gnome.org/archives/easytag-list/2009-September/msg00008.html) but doesn't appear to have been picked up. I believe easytag may have been using taglib back then, I note it now uses libid3tag to write ID3v2.4 tags. Easytag generates the log message "The year value 'YYYY-MM-DD' seems to be invalid in file '...'. The information will be lost while saving tag." and removes the month and day information. Disabling the "Auto completion of date if not complete" option does not alleviate this issue and there seems to be no way of using Easytag to save the tags of this file without crippling the field. If this can be fixed it might also be prudent to replace Year in the gui with Date.
I incorrectly assumed a relation between the issue and ID3. I now realise it is affecting flac files not containing an ID3 tag.
