GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 74459
nautilus-script listings should be sorted better
Last modified: 2021-06-18 15:50:22 UTC
Currently, nautilus-script listing are sorted alphabetically in the context menu regardless of whether they are a folder or a file. This makes the presentation visually confusing. I would suggest that the list should be sorted alphabetically still, but files should be listed before folders. My reasoning for this is as follows. I place scripts in the base nautilus-scripts folders that I use most regularly. I don't want to have to drill down through many folders to locate them. Other less important scripts I place in folders to help find them. So by putting the files before the folders, the scripts I use the most are placed closer to the mouse pointer making access quicker. Also, by placing files before folders, it is easier to see which are scripts and which are folders. I welcome discussion on this, but I feel that the current arrangement is awkward.
Would be nice to fix; not really a regression so not /quite/ g2 by darin's standards.
still here with 2.9
looping self, agreeing with OP (noticing that having the folders either at the bottom or at the top would be better than the current situation) - and linking to another 'script item sort weirdness' I am experiencing: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=768323 whereas the sorting is being done in reverse alphabetical order (?)
GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org. As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately quite limited so not every ticket can get handled). If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent and supported software version of Files (nautilus), then please follow https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines and create a new ticket at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/nautilus/-/issues/ Thank you for your understanding and your help.
